Traditional Ruler Raises Alarm Over Ritual Killings in Abia Community
The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation following the discovery of 30 bodies in Imo River, suspected to be victims of ritual killings.
Traditional ruler HRH Eze Philip Ajomuiwe reported that since early 2024, unidentified individuals have been dumping mutilated bodies, mostly young women, into the river at night. The monarch described the gruesome pattern, stating, “The bodies are found naked, often missing private parts.”
Police have begun working with vigilante groups to track the perpetrators, but Eze Ajomuiwe lamented the lack of arrests and insufficient security support. He urged the government to equip local vigilantes, emphasizing that the criminals are armed with sophisticated weapons.
Despite reaching out to security agencies, including the DSS, the community continues to live in fear. The traditional ruler is calling for urgent government intervention to put an end to the killings and restore peace.
