Tinubu replaces Betta Edu with Yilwatda as new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, replacing Betta Edu. Yilwatda, who was the Plateau State governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, steps in following Edu’s suspension.
Edu was suspended due to allegations of financial mismanagement, specifically the diversion of N585 million intended for vulnerable groups into a private account. This led to an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Yilwatda’s appointment signals a fresh start for the Ministry, with expectations that he will spearhead reforms and drive efforts to meet the government’s goals of poverty alleviation and improved social welfare programs.
