Sultan Cautions Against Efforts to Create Divisions in the North, Emphasizes Region’s Significant Strength
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Mohammad Abubakar II, has expressed concern over efforts to create divisions in Northern Nigeria, attributing these attempts to the region’s historical unity and influence. Speaking at a conference on climate change-related conflicts in Kaduna, he underscored the need for solidarity among Northern communities for regional stability and the strength of Nigeria as a whole.
The Sultan highlighted that the North’s significance extends beyond Nigeria, making it a target for groups that wish to destabilize the region. He emphasized that unity is vital for addressing challenges such as poverty, climate change, and insecurity, advocating for collective action to foster development and peace.
He urged Northern leaders and citizens to resist divisive narratives and focus on shared goals to build a more prosperous community. The Sultan’s call for unity comes at a crucial time as the North navigates environmental and social conflicts, with a collective effort seen as essential for regional and national progress.
