Since Tribunal Started, You’ve Called Only 2 Out Of 50 Witnesses You Said You’ll Call – Pinheiro To LP
Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kemi Pinheiro, has tackled the Labour Party (LP) for calling out only two witnesses to testify out of the 50 witnesses that the party said it would present. Pinheiro said that the act shows that the Labour Party is only trying to stall the case.
The statement from Pinheiro came after the lead counsel to the Labour Party, Livy Uzoukwu, accused the office of the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, of refusing to provide documents even when subpoena had been issued.
While addressing the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday June 14th, Livy Uzoukwu had said – “The office of the INEC Chairman has consistently refused to comply with providing documents even with the subpoena issued, in spite of the efforts of the bailiff.”
While reacting to the claim, Pinheiro said that no subpoena was issued, and that if the Labour Party have nothing to do they should say so.
In the report which was made by The Cable, Pinheiro said – “This habit is showing that you’re only stalling the case. You’ve only called two witnesses out of the 50 witnesses you said you would call and it has been two weeks since tribunal started.
“I just want to make it clear that it is not correct that the INEC Chairman refused to respond to the subpoena. The Chairman of INEC has no interest whatsoever. So it’s very unfair and uncharitable.”
