Reactions As Court Confess That Results of 18,088 Polling Units on INEC Portal are Blurred
The Presidential Election Petition Court on Thursday admitted in evidence data analysis of the February 25 presidential election results and their accompanying appendices.
The court also admitted in evidence blurred results from 18,088 polling units from the results viewing portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, presented the evidence during the presidential election held on February 25. They are disputing the election’s outcome, in which Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was declared the elected president by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
During the resumed hearing on Thursday, the petitioners’ counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), represented the LP and Obi. At the beginning of the session, the Senior Advocate informed the court of his intention to call Professor Eric Ofoedu, an expert in Mathematics, as a witness to testify in the case.
In addition, the court accepted as evidence the letter addressed to Professor Ofoedu, soliciting his expertise, as well as the subpoena served on him to appear in court.
However, the respondents in the case, namely the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bola Tinubu, his vice-president Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), raised objections regarding the admissibility of these documents.
The news headline has generated mixed reactions among the Facebook users. Kindly read some of the reactions from Nigerians that commented below the news on Facebook:
Specifically, counsel for the APC, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), objected to the admissibility of the subpoena served on the witness. Nonetheless, Fagbemi consented to the court admitting the letter of engagement as evidence.
