Pope Francis Expresses Deep Concern Over Kidnappings in Nigeria
Pope Francis, the Catholic Pontiff, has labeled the incidence of kidnappings in Nigeria as deeply troubling.
Pope Francis, in a short message on his X handle, however, prayed that efforts to tackle the scourge will yield result.
“The increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria are extremely concerning. I express my closeness in prayer to the Nigerian people, hoping that efforts will be made to contain the spread of these incidents as much as possible,” Pope Francis wrote on his X.
The Pope’s comments came against the background of rampant abduction and kidnappings in nearly all parts of Nigeria with the Northwest most affected.
The kidnappers also frequently targeted Catholic Priests.
While most of the abdctees are usually released after payment of ransom, many, including Catholic Priests have dies in the custody of their abductors
