Peter Obi Mourns Victims of Niger State Tanker Explosion That Claimed Over 70 Lives
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating fuel tanker explosion that occurred along the Dikko-Maje Road in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State. The tragedy, which happened on Thursday, claimed over 70 lives and left more than 50 people injured.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Obi described the incident as “truly heartbreaking” and emphasized the urgent need for stricter safety measures to prevent such recurring disasters.
“These accidents, which have sadly become increasingly recurrent, highlight the urgent need for stricter safety measures to address the dangers of tanker explosions and similar incidents, which often result in colossal disasters,” he wrote.
The former governor of Anambra State extended his condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Niger State. He prayed for God’s comfort for those affected, eternal rest for the departed, and a swift recovery for the injured.
According to authorities, around 60 bodies have been recovered from the scene as of Saturday. The tanker, owned by HMY Oil and Gas, reportedly exploded, causing the deadly incident.
