Ondo Governor Akeredolu Hands Over Power to Deputy Governor, See Why
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has delegated his power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as he takes medical leave abroad.
Akeredolu’s absence and lack of transparency about his location had raised concerns among opposition parties, who urged him to transfer power to the deputy governor to avoid a constitutional crisis.
In a letter to the Speaker of the Ondo State House Assembly, Akeredolu officially designated Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor during his medical leave abroad.
The Speaker confirmed that Governor Akeredolu would be on a 21-day medical leave abroad, starting from June 7 to July 6, 2023, which has been extended due to public holidays.
Expressing their well wishes, the Speaker described Akeredolu as a proponent of peace and the rule of law.
He assured the people of Ondo State that the deputy governor would efficiently handle the state’s affairs in the absence of Governor Akeredolu.

This decision comes in response to concerns raised by opposition parties and aims to prevent a constitutional crisis.
The Speaker of the Ondo State House Assembly confirmed the governor’s leave and expressed hopes for his swift recovery, while assuring the public that the deputy governor would effectively manage the state’s affairs during Akeredolu’s absence.
