Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Denies Simon Ekpa’s Allegation of Facilitating Biafra’s $57.5 Billion Loan

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has firmly rejected claims made by Simon Ekpa, a prominent figure in the Biafran separatist movement. Ekpa alleged that Okonjo-Iweala facilitated a $57.5 billion loan from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), which intends to declare independence in December 2024.
In a report by The Punch, Ekpa’s assertions gained traction online, causing widespread speculation. However, Okonjo-Iweala promptly responded, categorically denying any involvement in the alleged loan deal. She addressed the accusations on social media, calling them baseless and emphasizing that her name was being misused for political motives.
Okonjo-Iweala’s statement underscored that the allegations were entirely fabricated. She urged the public not to fall for misleading information and highlighted the importance of safeguarding her reputation against false narratives.
“I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below, but in these troubled times, it is important to underscore that the statement is false.
Again, I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!” Okonjo-Iweala stated.
