Pius Akinola, a young man, was arrested on Sunday by detectives from the Bayelsa State local vigilante service for the brutal murder of his mother, Mrs. Alice Patrick Akinola, allegedly for the purpose of obtaining money through ritualistic means. []

The arrest took place after his nephew, Faruk, discovered his blood-covered grandmother in their small apartment at No. 2 Raji Ajanaku Street, Alaja Road, Ayobo, Lagos, and raised the alarm.

The vigilante group swiftly apprehended the suspect, who was then subjected to severe physical assault before being handed over to the police for further investigation. According to a press release by CSP Chike Oti, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, this violent and horrifying incident occurred on Sunday.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the suspect, who is believed to be involved in a cult and engaged in online fraud, saw killing his mother as a necessary step to expand his criminal activities. []

The suspect, reportedly a prominent member of the notorious Aiye fraternity, approached his mother’s provision shop, situated in front of their house, and asked her to join him inside for an important discussion. He also sent his nephew, Faruk, to fetch a white handkerchief and a stick of cigarettes, fully aware that it would take the boy some time to return.
