Man Caught Tampering with Jibowu Bridge Bolts and Nuts Sentenced to Four Months in Prison
A man who was arrested by men of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI, while removing bolts and nuts on Jibowu Bridge has been sentenced to four months imprisonment by a court in the state, according to report on Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources in the state, Tokunbo Wahab, who announced the development on his X handle on Wednesday afternoon, said the man, whose name was not disclosed, was sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court sitting at Oshodi over the offence.
The vandal, as posted by the Commissioner today.
According to him, the man was apprehended while removing some of the bolts and nuts that hold the bridge and after his interrogation, he was arraigned at the court where he was sentenced to four months imprisonment without option of fine.
The Commissioner wrote: “Lagos KAI officials apprehended a man on Jibowu Bridge for attempting to sabotage public infrastructure by removing bolts and nuts holding the bridge. He was promptly arraigned at the Oshodi Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to four months imprisonment.
“The Lagos State Government, through its enforcement agencies, remains committed to safeguarding public infrastructure. Acts of vandalism not only endanger lives but also undermine the collective progress of the state.”
In the video posted on the Commissioner’s X handle, the man was seen showing the KAI officials how he used an instrument to remove some of the bolts and nuts.
The state government has been grappling with the activities of vandals who always remove government installations as well as those belonging to organizations, especially telecommunication companies.
