Maj. Gen. Haruna Refutes Asari Dokubo’s Claims of Military Involvement in Oil Theft
Former Commissioner for Information and Culture, Major General Ibrahim Bata Malgwi Haruna, has replied Asari Dokubo, a prominent Ijaw figure, who accused the Nigerian military of oil theft in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Recall, Alhaji Asari Dokubo was interviewed on Friday after his visit to President Bola Tinubu. During the interview, he had claimed that ordinary citizens cannot garner the resources and technology needed to engage in oil bunkering, especially connecting pipes directly to oil heads to tap crude. Hence, he accused the Nigerian military.
Responding to Asari Dokubo’s allegation, Major General Ibrahim Bata Haruna said that the former Niger Delta militant lacks the moral right to speak on oil theft in the country unless he wants to apologise to Nigerians.
Major General Ibrahim Bata Haruna reportedly asked: “Is Asari Dokubo free from oil theft? Is he not a beneficiary of oil theft? How did he finance his empire over there?” Speaking further, he said, “In the Nigerian situation, they cannot get to where they have gotten if the spills of oil are not dripping from their ears and mouths”.
