Kaduna Civil Servant Demands N7m from Wife as Condition for Divorce
A civil servant in Kaduna State, Jamilu Zuntu, demands N7 million from his estranged wife, Hadiza Aliyu, as a condition for granting her divorce request.
Zuntu said the N7 million include the money he spent of education and dowries for Hadiza is seeking a dissolution of the three-year-old marriage.
He made the request at a Shariβa court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna where the divorce suit came up on Thursday.
He told the court that he had spent N2.5 million on education of Hadiza over a period of two and half years.
βI also bought boxes of clothes worth N2.5 million and paid for other traditional rites,β he claimed.
Hadiza, while reacting to her husbandβs demand, said that she was only ready to pay N100,000 being the dowry paid on her βto free myself from this unionβ.
Represented by her counsel, A. A Imam, Hadiza also prayed for the custody of their two-year-old daughter as the father was βnot in a position to provide for herβ.
The Judge, Isiyaku Abdulrahman, after listening to both sides, adjourned the matter to Feb. 27 for ruling
