JUST IN: Tinubu to Extend International Tour with Visit to South Africa After France
President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to travel to South Africa following his current visit to France. According to a statement from his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will depart France on Monday to attend the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town, where he will co-chair the event with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The presidential BNC meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the South African Parliament Building. It will be preceded by a ministerial meeting on December 2. During the session, the two leaders will discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues, building on their earlier meeting in Johannesburg on June 20, 2024, shortly after Ramaphosa’s inauguration for a second term.
The agenda will include reviewing progress made since the last BNC meeting held in Abuja in November 2021. Discussions will span eight working groups focused on key areas of mutual interest, such as political consultations, consular and migration affairs, banking and finance, defence and security, manufacturing, the social sector, mines and energy, and trade and investment.
Officials from both nations are expected to sign multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements during the session, further strengthening cooperation and advancing shared goals.
