Isaac Anumudu to Tinubu: ‘If The Law Says You Must Have 2/3 Of States And The FCT, And Means Conjunction’

A Lawyer and Polity Analyst, Isaac Anumudu has stated that the election tribunal petition case filed against the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu can be decided in 7 days.
He argued that the petitions filed by the two major candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are under literal rules.
He asserted that the law is clear about the FCT and that the 25% required in 2/3 of the state and the FCT.
According to him, ‘and’ in this context is a conjunction and it has to be mandated for any candidate before it can be declared winner of an election.
He said, ”Now, we lawyers have various modes of interpretation, we have the golden rules and other rules. But the basic is the literal rule, where the law is literally clear, don’t add anything to it.
If the law says you must have 2/3 of the states and the FCT, and here means conjunction. And there is the argument that what if the University says you must get English and Mathematics before you are admitted to read medicine and you get 8 other credits but you lack English and Mathematics, will they admit you? The answer is No. So if that is what the law says, that can be decided by the tribunal, it doesn’t need 180 days.”
