Harrison Gwamnishu Warns Parents After Tragic Murder of 17-Year-Old Student at UNN
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has issued a serious warning to parents whose daughters attend the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He urged them to have important discussions about prioritizing their daughters’ safety while on campus.
In a heartfelt message posted on his social media platforms, Gwamnishu highlighted a disturbing reality within the university, alleging that the institution’s management has been negligent and involved in covering up incidents related to student safety.
His plea was triggered by the heartbreaking story of Joy Eze, a 17-year-old student who went to class one day and never returned. Her body was found the next day, showing signs of brutal violence, with her face so badly beaten that she was unrecognizable.Gwamnishu warned that this tragic incident is just one of many.
He recounted several other alarming events at UNN that reveal a growing pattern of violence against students, especially young women. He shared the frightening story of another female student who was tricked into leaving campus under the guise of picking up a delivery, only to be kidnapped.Gwamnishu also pointed out that male students are not exempt from danger, mentioning the case of a young man who was abducted from the university as well.
These incidents highlight the dangerous environment students are facing at UNN.In his message, Gwamnishu called on parents to have open conversations with their daughters about staying safe and stressed the importance of being vigilant in these challenging times.
