Gunmen, yesterday, kidnapped three immediate family members of former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, in his Wakkama Village, Akwanga Local Council of Nasarawa State.
The kidnappers are demanding N30 million as ransom.
A witness told The Guardian that some heavily armed men invaded the family compound about 9.00p.m. and took away two men and a woman to an unknown destination. The victims are identified as Anzaku Maku, Gambo Maku and Namo Maku, all children of Maku’s elder brother.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramham Nansel, in a telephone conversation said the command was not aware of the incident.
MEANWHILE, Southern Kaduna people, under the aegis of Southern Kaduna Leadership Council (SKLC), have called on the Federal Government and the international community to begin probe of the genocide in their communities under the administration of former Governor Nasir el-Rufai.
International bodies the group sought their intervention include African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN).
Chairman of SKLC, Ishaya Akau, in a statement, yesterday, lamented the ordeal of Southern Kaduna indigenes, who lost their sons and daughters, as well as their lands, in the hands of the Fulani militia.
He said: “We call on the international community to constitute a visitation panel to ascertain the genocide orchestrated and supervised under the regime of El-Rufai as governor between 2015 and 2023.
“We now know that propaganda by certain disgruntled elements in our midst has had the tacit support of government. SKLC and indeed the people of Southern Kaduna will not use the statements of El-Rufai to determine how we live and relate with Muslims, settlers or visitors to Southern Kaduna.”
Describing southern Kaduna people as a peaceful breed, Akau stressed that the people would follow peaceful and lawful means in pursuit of their goal of survival, as a people, under a hostile regime.
He added: “However, we will not fail to tell our people to defend their lives, lands and heritage.”
According to him, SKLC is desirous of developing harmonious and peaceful relations with all the citizens and people of Kaduna, just as he called on the state government not to follow the path of its predecessor.
