Governor Uzodinma Affirms: Lagos Needs Igbos and Igbos Need Lagos – We Stand Firm in Lagos State

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State responded to the Alaba market demolition in Lagos after meeting with the state administration.
He acknowledged the dissatisfaction of their Igbo brothers and sisters due to the market’s destruction and assured that they have already reached out to the authorities to understand the reasons behind the demolition.
“Our brothers and sisters conducting businesses in Lagos are understandably upset,” he stated. “They have seen their stores and livelihoods devastated. As responsible leaders, we intervened to investigate the issues faced by the state government. From my experience as a governor, I know that there might be discrepancies in documentation.”
Governor Uzodinma assured that they will be in contact with the relevant authorities to address the situation. He also acknowledged that some Igbos are contemplating returning to their homeland, which he appreciated. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship between Igbos and Lagos.
“We understand the consideration for a change in location,” he said. “The success of any business relies on supply, demand, and location. Both Igbos and Lagos depend on each other; it’s a mutually beneficial relationship. As such, we are committed to ensuring that Igbos will not leave Lagos state.”
