Gani Adams to Tinubu: Will Fuel Hike Damage Your Image?
Barely a week after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) suspended its planned nationwide strike following the court order restraining the union from proceeding with the planned strike over the removal of fuel subsidy, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, urged President Bola Tinubu not to destroy his image by making decisions that will negatively affect Nigerians.
According to the report published by the Sun, he urged Tinubu not to suppress the NLC over the fuel crisis, adding that he should think of what Nigerians would say if he made a decision on an issue without thinking of the impact it would have on them.
Speaking further, he lamented over the increase in petrol pump prices, making it clear that the removal of fuel subsidy should have been done gradually.
Recall that the NLC planned to embark on a nationwide strike over this but the federal government secured a court injunction restraining the NLC from going on strike.
While speaking on this, Adams said, “If you think you have the power as Jagaban to suppress the NLC, suppress everything, take a court injunction, what of your image in the eyes of the masses? The people that surround you in the political terrain could say ‘do anything and nothing will happen’ but the people that are facing that hardship will be destroying your image in every community in Nigeria.”
