Fuel Price Hike: Labour Leader Warns FG, Says NLC President Has Been Repeatedly Undermined
In a recent interview on Arise TV, Labour leader Tony Akeni sent a strong message to the Nigerian government, declaring that the patience of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has been stretched thin.continu
Speaking on the issue of rising fuel prices, Akeni said that while dialogue remains an option, the tone will now be more assertive.Akeni praised NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero for his steady leadership during tough times, despite facing criticism.
He described Ajaero as one of the most composed and capable leaders of a major labor union. However, Akeni voiced his frustration over what he sees as the government’s continuous disregard for the Nigerian people and the unions, especially with the recent fuel price hikes.
He remarked, “The NLC president has been too often overlooked—along with the NLC and TUC. This time, we will assert our equal stake in this country. What’s unfair to one side shouldn’t be imposed on the other.
“Akeni stressed that while the possibility for talks remains, this next phase will be more intense. “Yes, there will be dialogue, but it will be a stronger, more forceful dialogue,” he said.As events unfold, the NLC and TUC are expected to take a firm stance, signaling the possibility of heightened action in response to government policies affecting Nigerians.
