Fubara: “Why Not Obey the Court? Don’t Use Force to Achieve Your Goals” – Olaka Nwogu
Senator Olaka Nwogu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has voiced concerns about the disregard for the rule of law and defiance of court orders in the state’s ongoing political situation. CONTINUE READING<><><>
In an interview with Arise TV, Nwogu stressed the importance of adhering to legal procedures and resolving disputes through judicial channels rather than resorting to force or coercion.
He emphasized that the Federal High Court’s interim orders, which are binding on both the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), must be respected. Nwogu pointed out that any dissatisfaction with the court’s rulings should be addressed through legal appeals rather than disobedience, warning that the failure to obey court orders undermines the integrity of the judicial system.
Nwogu also expressed concerns about the potential dangers of setting a precedent where court rulings are ignored. He called for respect for the judiciary and urged political actors to follow the appropriate legal channels, including the right to appeal decisions they disagree with.
According to Nwogu, “What we see is a clear violation of the law, an attempt to not obey the order of the court. What is wrong in obeying the court? The appeal is there if you disagree with the court. Do not use force to do what you want.”
