First Time in Edo History: A Governor Declared Winner After Securing Victory in Just One Zone – Babajide Ogunsanwo
In a recent interview with Channels Television, political analyst Babajide Ogunsanwo delved into the surprising outcome of the Edo State governorship election, which has led to a significant shift in the state’s political dynamics.
Ogunsanwo pointed out the unusual nature of the result, saying, “Some people may interpret this as a sign of the end times,” in reference to how unexpected the election outcome was.
For the first time in Edo’s history, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner, despite only securing a majority of votes in Edo North, one of the state’s three zones. Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, won the majority in both Edo Central and Edo South, making the election result even more surprising.
Ogunsanwo suggested that this development could signal broader shifts in the political landscape of Edo State. While some may see this as a troubling result, others believe it shows that the political environment is increasingly unpredictable, with Ogunsanwo highlighting that “nothing is impossible” in politics. The election, which saw a governor declared winner after winning only one zone, could be a precursor to further major changes in Edo’s political future.
He added, “While some view this as a sign of the end times, those in the APC see it as proof that anything can happen.” As Edo’s political scene evolves, this election may represent the beginning of a new chapter for the state.
