FIRS Chairman Assures NASENI, NITDA, and TETFUND That Tax Bills Do Not Threaten Their Existence

The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has assured that none of the four tax bills currently before the National Assembly pose a threat to the existence of any government agency or the jobs of individuals.
Adedeji gave this reassurance in Abuja on Wednesday at the Revenue House while hosting the chief executive officers of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).Addressing concerns over the proposed renaming of FIRS to Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and fears that this could lead to the consolidation of several federal agencies under the tax authority, Adedeji clarified that such changes were intended to improve the efficiency of the agencies and streamline their operations.
He further assured that the proposed bills would not affect the agencies’ funding, effectiveness, or operational efficiency. Instead, the provisions within the bills are aimed at laying a strong foundation for the long-term sustainability of these agencies.
