“Court Denies Fubara’s Request to Halt Lawsuit Over Fund Allocation to Rivers LGAs”

A Federal High Court in Abuja has denied the Rivers State Government’s request to suspend proceedings in a lawsuit aimed at preventing fund allocation to Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Rivers State. This decision adds to the ongoing political turmoil in the state, which has led to divisions within the state legislature.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara is facing opposition from a faction led by Martin Amaewhule, who is supported by former governor Nyesom Wike, while another faction, backing Fubara, is led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.On Friday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik described the stay application submitted by Rivers State’s attorney, Gordy Uche (SAN), as “frivolous, vexatious, unwarranted, and mischievous.
This ruling was issued during the proceedings of the case CA/ABJ/CV/1197/2024, initiated by the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Amaewhule. The plaintiffs are seeking to compel the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop financial allocations to LGAs in Rivers State. The Rivers State Government had requested a stay, asserting that it would challenge the court’s jurisdiction in the Court of Appeal.
