‘A Troubling Echo of Boko Haram’s Early Days’ – Army Responds to Growing Threat from LAKURAWAS
The Nigerian Army has issued a strong warning about the emergence of a new terrorist group called the Lakurawas, whose activities are reportedly similar to those of Boko Haram in its early days. The Army’s statement, shared widely by the media and reported by VANGUARD on Saturday, November 9, 2024, highlights the group’s growing threat, with concerns particularly high for residents of Sokoto State.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence, emphasized that the military is working proactively to locate and dismantle the Lakurawas before they gain traction. Drawing on lessons from Boko Haram’s rise, he urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals to authorities, stressing the importance of immediate action before the situation escalates.
Public reaction to the Army’s statement has been intense, with many calling for a swift, decisive response to eradicate the Lakurawas and prevent further harm.
‘In his words’
“This is the same thing that happened when Boko Haram started. But this time, we are out for them from the onset. We are locating them and neutralizing them. The lesson to learn from this is if you see strange people, say something. Report to the authorities. Don’t just assume until it gets out of hand.” He said.
The statements from the Nigerian Army however stirred mixed reactions from the general public as many called on them not only to be aware of their activities, but also wipe them off before they cause more damages.
