2023: Presidential Election Petition hearing to begin May 8th
The Nigeria Presidential Election Petition Hearing is set to commence on May 8th to challenge the official appointment of Bola Tinubu as the country’s president.
The Presidential Election Petitions Court has established these hearings to evaluate whether there are any applicable proceedings before the case officially begins.
This challenge to Tinubu’s appointment comes from leaders of the People’s Democratic Party and Labour Party, named Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who claim that the 2023 election was plagued with irregularities.
Both candidates request that this election is voided immediately, and a fresh vote is conducted.
In addition, Obi believes that Tinubu is unqualified to contest the election and therefore, is seeking his disqualification.
Two other opposition parties, the Allied Peoples Movement and a faction of the Action Alliance, are also seeking to nullify Tinubu’s appointment.
The AA contends that INEC failed to include their candidate’s name in the list of presidential contenders.
Replies from Tinubu and his political party, the All Progressives Congress, have requested for all petitions to be dismissed.
