Yeni Kuti Urges Restraint Amid Wizkid–Seun Kuti Feud, Recalls Singer’s Early Days at the Shrine

Yeni Kuti, daughter of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has commented on the ongoing feud between music star Wizkid and her brother, Seun Kuti, calling for patience, dialogue, and de-escalation.

Speaking in a video shared on social media on January 22, 2026, Yeni said she deliberately avoided participating in the public exchange surrounding the dispute, citing her long-standing personal relationship with Wizkid.

According to her, she has known Wizkid since before his rise to international fame, making it difficult for her to engage in online arguments or view the situation with hostility.

“I remember when he started at the Shrine,” Yeni said. “He was a backup singer at the Shrine.”

She recalled Wizkid’s early involvement at the New Afrika Shrine, founded by her late father, noting that she witnessed his growth from a backup singer during the Shrine’s liberation period to a globally recognised artist. She said those shared experiences shaped her decision to remain neutral.

Yeni explained that her choice not to engage in public criticism was driven by respect for personal history and relationships, which she believes should outweigh conflicts amplified by social media.

She also placed the disagreement within a broader industry context, stressing that while disagreements among artists are sometimes inevitable, they should be resolved through communication and mutual understanding rather than public confrontations.

Yeni concluded by urging unity and respect within the music community, emphasizing that lasting personal connections should guide conduct even during high-profile disputes.
