“Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ Ranked Among Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs”

“Rolling Stone’s List of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time Features Wizkid and Tems’ ‘Essence’, Continuing its Accolades”
American magazine Rolling Stone started its list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004. Due to time and music changes and the birth of newer artists Rollings Stone revamped its List and received nearly 4000 songs for entries. The result is a more expansive, inclusive vision of pop, music that keeps rewriting its history with every beat.
Essense was ranked at the 414th position on the list. Essence is popularly acclaimed as “the song of the summer”. The song is off Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album, released in 2020. The afro-pop tune is a soothing mid-tempo song that has taken over the music scene on a global scale.
In 2021 Essence was been declared as the best song of 2021 by RollingStone. The song was later remixed by Justin Bieber. At the beginning of 2024, RollingStone also included Nigerian icons Fela Kuti, Burna Boy, and Sunny Ade in its 500 Greatest Albums of all time.
