Teni is Spotify’s EQUAL artist pick for August
Teni is chosen as Spotify’s EQUAL artist pick for the month of August.
Teni is in the limelight again for something fantastic. Still riding the wave of being featured on Bob Marley’s posthumous anthology album, Teni has been announced as the Spotify EQUAL pick for August 2023.
The Spotify EQUAL campaign is the streaming giant’s initiative to amplify women’s voices in music on a global scale. The program involves artists such as Alicia Keys, Janelle Monaé, and, of course, Teni.
Since Teni took the stage, it has been obvious that she was meant to be a star before she became a leading Nigerian pop icon. Teni first came onto the Nigerian music industry scene in 2017 with the release of her single ‘Fargin’ and since then she has been on a successful roll, beating her own limits and giving the audience amazing music every time. Being chosen for this campaign is a recognition of the hard work that she has put into her music and musical career.
Spotify’s head of music for sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, enthusiastically speaks about Teni’s exceptional musical talent. She says Teni’s talent and rising popularity put her at the forefront as one of Africas’s most prominent names in music.
In her words, “We are delighted to have Teni as our EQUAL Africa programme ambassador for August. The uniqueness of her music, dedication to her craft, and growing fandom truly spotlights her as an inspiration in the African music scene. Celebrating Teni and her musical journey definitely aligns with our commitment to recognizing the unique experiences of female artists through their music; from all corners of the continent.”
Okumu also highlighted Teni as an iconic name in the African musical space. Teni herself expressed her excitement at the opportunity and how she would use it to its fullest potential.
