“My Husband Told Me to Choose Between Him and Film Making, So I Left Him” – Actress Yetunde Wunmi
Veteran Yoruba actress Yetunde Wunmi has opened up about her early struggles in pursuing a career in the movie industry and how it ultimately led to the end of her marriage.
During an interview on Oyinmomo TV’s official YouTube channel, the seasoned actress recounted how her ex-husband was never in support of her acting ambitions. According to her, she used to secretly practice film-making at home whenever he was away, knowing he disapproved.
“When my husband was not around, I would practice film making at home because he never supported my film making career,” she revealed.
She explained that things came to a head when her husband gave her an ultimatum.
“My husband told me to choose between him and film making, so I chose film making and left him,” she said.
After walking away from her marriage, Wunmi turned to her sister for support. Her sister connected her with a veteran in the Yoruba movie industry. Wunmi recalled that she was asked to pay fifty naira to join his theatre group — a symbolic beginning that marked the launch of her journey in acting.
“And that was how I started my journey into the Yoruba movie industry,” she concluded.
Her story highlights the sacrifices she made to follow her passion, choosing a path that would later define her legacy in the Nigerian film scene.
