“I’m Beautiful, My Skin Is Clean, But I Can’t Kiss or Expose My Body in Movies” – Nike Peller
Veteran Yoruba actress Nike Peller has opened up about her personal boundaries in filmmaking, revealing that she refuses to engage in intimate scenes, including kissing or exposing her body, no matter the role.
In an interview on Talktodunnis TV, shared via YouTube, Peller emphasized the importance of cultural values and modesty in Nigerian cinema. She explained that her commitment to preserving cultural dignity is one of the reasons she was honored with a chieftaincy title.
A king gave me the chieftaincy title of a culture promoter, and when I asked him why he gave me the title, he told me that he has been watching me and he realised that I promote the Nigerian culture in my movies because I can’t expose my body in movies,” she said.
Peller stressed that she draws a clear line when it comes to on-screen intimacy. “As for me, I don’t kiss in movies because I can’t do that with another woman’s husband. I’m beautiful, my skin is very clean, but I can’t kiss in movies, and I don’t expose my body.”
She added that she won’t compromise her values for the sake of a role. “I can’t dress inappropriately because I want to impress somebody on a movie set,” she said, noting that intimacy should not be necessary to convey a romantic relationship on screen. “I believe when actors are given a movie role to act as lovers, once they both sleep on the bed together, there shouldn’t be any intimacy between them anymore because they already passed the message that the viewers want to know.”
Peller’s remarks reflect her stance on maintaining decency and cultural pride in the Nigerian film industry.
