Hip-hop star David Adeleke aka Davido has revealed that he got into trouble with the Nigerian government after his involvement in the #EndSARS protest.
Davido revealed this on Wednesday when he featured in “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.”
The multiple award winning music star spoke on different issues and revealed he had to leave Nigeria after his participation in the #EndSars protest.
Davido said this after the host, Trevor Noah asked him how his hit track ‘fem’ became the anthem for the protest against police brutality in Nigeria.
The music star responded saying he did not record the song for the protest but it was amazing seeing the song as an instrument for people.
“I did not record that song thinking that was going to happen. Honestly, it is amazing how I saw my voice be an instrument for the people. It was amazing…I got into a lot of trouble, I got into a lot of trouble. I had to actually leave the country, it was that bad because I got into a lot of trouble,” he said.
“It was amazing to see people come out like that. I’ll tell you this, they listened, they heard us. They might have changed nothing but they were shocked.”
Davido’s hit track ‘fem’ came after he went awol for a long time on social media and returned telling his critics to ‘fem’ a colloquial word that means keep quiet.
Davido was one of the many celebrities that identified with the #EndSars protest back in 2020.
