Comfort Emmanson Speaks After Court Discharge in Ibom Air Case (Video)
Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in a recent altercation aboard an Ibom Air flight, has given her account of the events that led to her arrest, arraignment, and subsequent discharge by a Lagos court.
In an 11-minute Instagram video posted on Sunday, Emmanson described the August 10 incident as “traumatic” and alleged she was assaulted by a flight attendant identified as Juliana. According to her, the dispute began when the attendant insisted she power off her phone instead of switching it to flight mode, despite her explanation that the device’s power button was faulty. With help from another passenger, she said she eventually switched off both her phones through the settings.
Emmanson claimed the confrontation escalated after the aircraft landed at Lagos. She alleged that while attempting to disembark, the attendant stopped her, leading to a struggle. She said her clothes and wig were pulled, her necklace was broken, and she was exposed while being filmed. “They tore my clothes, exposed my body, and people were taking videos. I felt humiliated,” she said.
In a follow-up statement on Instagram, Emmanson denied claims that her actions were politically motivated. She said: “There have been lots of narratives being pushed about the incident, even by respected individuals, some claiming my suffering was political. These are all false… I only wish for redemption and to regain whatever dignity I have left as a woman.”
She apologised for her reaction during the altercation but maintained that it was provoked. “I would never lay hands on someone old enough to be my mother if she hadn’t assaulted me first. I apologise about my behaviour, I am not crazy, neither am I wayward,” she stated.
