Bobrisky Accuses EFCC and Other Nigerian Security Agencies of Human Rights Violations.
Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has taken legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other Nigerian security agencies, accusing them of repeated human rights violations. Through his lawyer, Bobrisky filed a petition in the Federal High Court of Nigeria seeking an injunction to prevent these agencies from harassing, arresting, detaining, or declaring him wanted.
Bobrisky shared the details of the court filing on his Instagram page, emphasizing his plea for protection from security agency actions that he claims infringe on his rights. He detailed an incident in which, despite the pending court petition, EFCC officials forcefully removed him from a plane that was about to take off, describing it as an unlawful and violent act that breached his fundamental human rights.
In his statement, Bobrisky expressed his frustration over what he perceives as a culture of impunity among Nigerian security forces. He called for international attention to these alleged abuses, stating, “The EFCC and other security agencies in Nigeria are violators of human rights, and it is high time the world and the international community recognized their pattern of infringing on freedom and rights.”
Bobrisky further highlighted that, without any court order, the Minister of Interior directed the Nigeria Immigration Service and the police to arrest and detain him, actions which he claims exacerbated his existing health issues. He also noted that, despite the ongoing legal proceedings, the EFCC transferred him from their Lagos office to Abuja, ignoring the pending suit.
He criticized the EFCC and other agencies for disregarding judicial authority, stating, “It is a shame that the EFCC does not respect the court, nor do other security agencies; they act above the law they are supposed to uphold.”
Bobrisky’s case sheds light on broader concerns about the adherence of Nigerian security bodies to legal standards and human rights protocols.
