Sesan Adio Speaks on Alleged Oversight Following Death of His Son

Veteran Nollywood actor Sesan Adio has addressed public reactions surrounding what he described as an oversight by his professional association following the death of his son.

Adio spoke during an interview on Oyinmomo Television on Friday, January 30, 2026, clarifying comments he made comparing the association’s public response to his loss and that of fellow actress Peju Ogunmola.

The actor said his remarks were not intended to accuse any individual or group but to draw attention to what he viewed as unequal treatment. “It has nothing to do with them. I lost my child before Peju Ogunmola lost her child. My intention was not even to accuse them. I just wanted to draw their attention to the oversight,” he said.

Adio explained that his concern followed a public post by the association acknowledging Ogunmola’s loss, while his own bereavement was not similarly highlighted. “I am an elder statesman in the industry, so I asked why they posted the loss of Peju Ogunmola’s child and didn’t post mine,” he said, adding that he questioned whether financial considerations played a role. “I asked if it was because I don’t have money.”

He noted that he is a registered member of the Lagos chapter of the association and that news of his son’s death had been circulated at the time. According to him, he also received condolences from government officials. “Our government called to sympathize with me. The chairman called me and some others,” he said.

Adio further expressed dissatisfaction with an official statement attributed to the association, which he said appeared to downplay his loss by contrasting it with Ogunmola’s. “What pained me … is when he said it’s far from each other that Peju Ogunmola only lost her only child and I only lost one of my own,” he said.

Questioning the implication of the statement, Adio added, “So I asked, is it when I lost all my child that they will also post me?”
