Wike Says Countdown to 2027 Elections Has Begun, Praises Pro-Tinubu Supporters in Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections have commenced.

Wike made the statement on Friday, January 30, 2026, during a ceremony in Port Harcourt where he inaugurated Senatorial and Local Government Area coordinators of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors.

Addressing the gathering, Wike commended members of the group for supporting President Bola Tinubu despite political differences within the state.

“You don’t have your governor with you, yet you say you are supporting Mr President,” Wike said.

He described their stance as evidence of loyalty and commitment, stressing that political support should be demonstrated through action rather than words. The minister praised the coordinators for mobilising support despite limited resources.

The former Rivers State governor also said true political conviction is not driven by financial inducement, noting that the group’s activities reflected dedication to the Renewed Hope agenda.

Wike added that President Tinubu is monitoring political developments and the level of commitment shown by supporters, urging the ambassadors to remain focused despite criticism.

He recalled earlier remarks that political mobilisation would begin in January, saying the process was now underway. The event marked a show of support for President Tinubu in Rivers State by groups aligned with Wike.
