Dokubo Questions Claims of U.S. Troop Presence in Nigeria

Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has dismissed claims that United States troops are operating on Nigerian soil, describing such reports as exaggerated and unsupported by facts.
Dokubo made the remarks during a live broadcast in a video shared by Critics News, while responding to accusations that he had supported foreign military intervention in Nigeria.
“Which America troop had come to our land? I said, ‘Let Trump send his troops.’ Had he sent any?” he asked.
He insisted that no U.S. ground forces had been deployed to Nigeria and challenged those making contrary claims to provide evidence. According to him, limited security cooperation or airspace coordination does not amount to the physical presence of foreign troops.
Dokubo said Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, is entitled to engage in security collaboration with other countries, but warned against misrepresenting such cooperation to the public, noting that inaccurate narratives could fuel fear and confusion.
He also criticised reports of alleged foreign-assisted military operations, questioning their transparency and results, and claimed that some were presented as major successes without verifiable evidence.
Dokubo further stated that local forces and community actors possess better knowledge of the terrain and intelligence networks, arguing that external support should remain complementary to Nigeria’s internal security efforts.
He urged Nigerians and the media to rely on verified information when discussing security issues, calling for transparency and accountability in reporting.
