2027: Opposition Has Outmaneuvered APC, Says Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has claimed that leading opposition figures are strategically positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme on Friday, September 12, 2025, Momodu said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi had outmaneuvered the Bola Tinubu administration through coordinated planning.

He alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is unsettled by the opposition’s growing strength and is seeking to present President Tinubu as the sole consensus candidate. “The ruling party is clearly anxious. They don’t want any formidable challenge in 2027. If possible, all political parties would rise up and endorse one man, and that is the president and commander-in-chief,” Momodu said.

The ADC leader further accused government operatives of fueling internal divisions in rival parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

According to him, ADC leaders had anticipated such interference and established safeguards to maintain unity. He added that the opposition deliberately gave the impression of aligning with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and other groups, only to later consolidate under the ADC platform.

Momodu noted that legal battles involving opposition figures were part of the wider political contest. “I was not surprised yesterday when the news broke again that these guys are on their way to court,” he said.
