Hadiza Abubakar: I Have a List of Directors Who Demanded Sex for Roles

Nollywood actress Hadiza Abubakar has opened up about her difficult experiences navigating the Nigerian film industry, revealing that she has faced numerous demands for sexual favors from directors in exchange for acting roles.
During an interview on Oyinmomo TV, the Yoruba movie star spoke candidly about being approached by several filmmakers who offered her scripts and roles—only to later attach unacceptable conditions.
Rather than compromise her principles, Hadiza said she consistently turned down those offers, even though they could have advanced her career. She explained that her decision was rooted in preserving her self-worth and integrity.
In a striking revelation, Abubakar disclosed that she has documented the names of all the directors who made such advances. While she has kept the list private for now, she hinted that she might eventually confront them.
“I have a list of all the directors that have asked me to sleep with them in exchange for movie roles,” she said. “I’m keeping that list with me because I’ll call them for a job later in the future. These are men who had already given me scripts but made it a condition that I must go into a room and sleep with them—or drop the script. And I dropped the script.”
Her remarks have sparked widespread discussion about the issue of sexual exploitation in Nollywood, with many calling for greater accountability and protection for actresses and aspiring talents in the industry.
