Rotimi Salami: Nollywood Rejected Me Over My Looks, I Cried

Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has opened up about the challenges he faced in the early days of his career, revealing that he was sidelined by movie producers due to his physical appearance.
During an interview on Feelrightnews TV’s YouTube channel, Salami recounted how the constant rejection took an emotional toll on him, to the point where he had to return to school.
“It was not easy at all during the time of our movie auditions because it was quite far from where I was living,” he shared, explaining that he would often travel long distances just to attend auditions. Despite his dedication, he struggled to land roles.
“For three years, I was given only one movie role,” he revealed. The most painful rejection, however, came when producers openly told him that his looks did not fit the roles they had available. He recalled being criticized for having a small face and a slim physique, while many roles were typically given to actors with a more muscular build.
“I cried when some producers said they couldn’t give me movie roles because of my face and body,” Salami admitted, reflecting on the difficult period in his career.
