Nigerian Police Arrest Ogun Resident for Brutalizing His Son During Domestic Dispute
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Odukaye Kunle, a man accused of brutally assaulting his young son, Boluwatife, during a domestic dispute with his wife in the Otta area of Ogun State.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as reported by SaharaReporters.
Incident Sparks Outrage
The case gained public attention after a viral video showed Kunle violently attacking his son. The footage, which sparked widespread condemnation, captured the toddler attempting to hug his father before being hit so hard that he was thrown into the air and landed on the ground.
Reacting to the incident, Adejobi condemned the act in a social media post, highlighting the dangers of uncontrolled anger.
“Anger is evil and destructive. Do you know that the young boy, Boluwatife, who was brutalised by his biological father in the viral video, wanted to even hug his dad to show affection? The innocent boy was severely maltreated because of anger. Let’s always manage our anger no matter the provocation,” he wrote.
Police Action and Next Steps
Following the public outcry, the police swiftly acted, leading to Kunle’s arrest. Adejobi provided an update, stating:
“Odukaye Kunle, the father who brutalized his son, Boluwatife, in the Otta area, Ogun State, has just been arrested by the police. The mother of the boy and the boy will be taken to our police medical centre in Otta for further medical assessment and attention. The Officer in Charge (OC) Medical, Ogun State, has been ordered to proceed to Otta on this mission. Kunle will be charged to court on Monday.”
The police commended the efforts of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for ensuring justice for the young boy.
The case continues to draw reactions from the public, with many calling for stricter measures against child abuse and domestic violence.
