EFCC Operative Killed by Suspected Fraudsters in Anambra, Body Flown to Sokoto for Burial

An operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Salisu, was fatally shot in Anambra State by suspected internet fraudsters, popularly called “Yahoo boys.” His body has been transported to Sokoto State for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday in Awka, where Salisu and his team from the EFCC Enugu Zonal Command were conducting a raid to apprehend suspected fraudsters. During the operation, they arrested several suspects and seized exhibits, including credit cards and four luxury vehicles.
However, the situation escalated when the team attempted to enter an apartment. The occupant, suspecting they might be robbers or kidnappers, refused to open the door.
According to a source:
“The EFCC team proceeded to break into his apartment, and the suspect opened fire on the lead person, an EFCC operative known as Salisu. He was seriously injured but still alive, with another operative sustaining a hand injury. The operatives rushed to a hospital for help but found no doctors available at the General Hospital in Awka. Only two nurses were on duty and advised them to seek a private hospital.”
Despite efforts to save him, Salisu succumbed to his injuries.
In the aftermath, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, reportedly facilitated the transportation of Salisu’s body to Sokoto for burial.
The Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the suspect involved in the shooting was in custody, and the firearm used in the attack had been recovered. Investigations are ongoing.
