BREAKING: PDP Expels Federal Lawmaker Ikenga Ugochinyere Over Misconduct
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the representative for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State and spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).
The expulsion, effective immediately, was attributed to gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities. This decision, dated December 5, 2024, was announced by the PDP’s Ideato Local Government Area chapter through a letter signed by Chairman Hon. ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh.
Ugochinyere’s expulsion followed a disciplinary committee’s report submitted on November 27, 2024. The investigation, conducted in line with Section 57 of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended), upheld allegations against him, including failure to attend meetings, creating parallel party structures, and publicly criticizing the party and its leadership.
The disciplinary process began after Ugochinyere was suspended by his Umuopia/Umukegwu ward on October 14, 2024, for ignoring multiple summons to appear before the ward’s executive committee.
The PDP cited specific violations of its constitution, including:
- Failure to participate in party meetings and activities, breaching Section 58(1)(e).
- Publicizing internal party disputes without authorization, contrary to Section 58(1)(i).
- Establishing unauthorized party structures at various levels.
- Making derogatory comments about the party and its leaders, damaging its reputation.
The party emphasized that Ugochinyere’s actions undermined its unity and public image, leaving no choice but to expel him.
