Oyelude: Northern Leaders Should Raise Concerns Through Their National Assembly Representatives

Oladele Oyelude, Director-General of the Tinubu-Shettima Ambassadors, addressed worries that opposition from northern leaders to President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bill might affect his chances for re-election. He urged northern leaders to express their concerns through their representatives in the National Assembly instead of creating regional rifts.
“If the North has reservations, they should work with their National Assembly members to address them constructively,” said Oyelude. He clarified that the purpose of the tax reform bill is to foster development by encouraging state governments to enhance their revenue generation.
“This reform isn’t about creating divisions; it’s about improving financial management,” he stated, adding that the National Assembly would review and modify any problematic elements.Oyelude also noted that having a northern Vice President would likely encourage northern voters to support Tinubu instead of opposing him over tax issues.
“I believe the North will back Tinubu and address any concerns through appropriate channels,” he remarked. He wrapped up by suggesting that engaging constructively with the bill’s implications could help foster national unity and drive economic advancement.
