A tragic incident unfolded in Gubio local government area of Borno State on Saturday, as an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) mistakenly identified as scrap metal detonated, resulting in the loss of six Quranic school pupils, commonly referred to as Almajirai in Hausa language.
The incident occurred when a metal scavenger unknowingly collected and stored various metallic items in a building close to a Tsangaya school, Sunday Vanguard reports.
According to the newspaper, little did the scavenger know that among the collected metal was an abandoned undetonated IED, which exploded at approximately 2 pm, claiming the lives of the children and causing severe bodily harm.
