Wike: “If you pass there in the night, you will realise that most parts of the road are in darkness”

As part of events marking the second anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has unveiled a 19-day schedule to commission several completed projects across Abuja.
The announcement was made following the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCT Administration (FCTA), chaired by Wike. A statement released by Lere Olayinka, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, revealed that the commissioning activities will commence on June 10, 2025.
Key projects lined up for commissioning include the refurbished Abuja International Conference Centre, newly built bus terminals at Kugbo and Mabushi, and the completed Apo-Wassa road. Other significant infrastructure projects set to be unveiled are the N16 Interchange, road networks linking Maitama, Katampe, and Jahi, as well as critical sections of the Inner Northern Expressway stretching from Idu to Kubwa.
Additional projects include the CN8 route connecting Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Court of Appeal, the N20 Flyover on Kubwa Road, and new roads around Life Junction extending to Ring Road III. In the Bwari Area Council, roads in Ushafa, War College, and the Army Checkpoint area will be inaugurated, along with access roads in Kabusa, Ketti, and Giri Districts.
To address safety concerns, the FCTA has also approved a contract to modernize the streetlighting along the 14-kilometer stretch of Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I). The Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Richard Dauda, noted that the existing lights, installed nearly two decades ago, are now outdated.
Speaking on the poor lighting conditions, Wike remarked, “If you pass there in the night, you will realise that most parts of the road are in darkness,” highlighting the urgency of the upgrade for improved security and visibility.
