Final EPL Table and Review After Yesterday’s Matches as Man City Close In on Arsenal in the UCL Race

Manchester City took a major step toward securing Champions League qualification with a commanding 3-1 win, a match that also featured a heartfelt farewell for Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad Stadium.
The match kicked off dramatically with Omar Marmoush launching a stunning long-range strike after receiving the ball near the halfway line—an effort reminiscent of the brilliance fans had long associated with De Bruyne.
Midway through the first half, there was a moment few expected. De Bruyne, usually clinical in front of goal, struck the crossbar from close range in a rare miss. The crowd’s reaction was a mix of disbelief and amusement, with some fans even laughing in surprise at the miss.
But Manchester City quickly regained control. Ilkay Gundogan set up a smooth passage of play that led to Bernardo Silva calmly slotting home from close range, giving City the equalizer they needed and reigniting their momentum.
Things got tense in the second half when Mateo Kovacic was shown a red card for a last-man foul, forcing manager Pep Guardiola to readjust his strategy. De Bruyne was brought back on to stabilize the midfield.
The tension escalated further when Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook was also sent off for a reckless tackle on substitute Nico Gonzalez. Gonzalez later delivered the final blow to Bournemouth with a sharp finish in the 88th minute following a quick counterattack.
Although Daniel Jebbison managed to pull one back for Bournemouth late in the game, it was clear the night belonged to City—and to De Bruyne.
Adding to the good news for Guardiola, key midfielder Rodri returned from injury, a positive sign as City eyes a strong finish to the season.
